FG Vows to End Izzi-Ukelle Crisis.

   The Federal Government has expressed determination to bring lasting solutions to the intractable boundary dispute between communities in Ebonyi and Cross River States.
The Minister of Interior, lieutenant General Abulrahman Dambazau gave the indication when he visited Governor David Nweze Umahi at the government House, Abakaliki.
Lt General Dambazau was at the government House to brief the governor on his findings after a visit to the areas affected by the inter-communal boundary clashes in Igbeagu community with Ukele community in cross River State.
The minister who condemned the magnitude of havoc wrecked as a result of the resurgence of the age long boundary crisis, stated that the federal government was ready to end the senseless killings and destruction of property in Igbeagu-Ukele axis.
He explained that the conditions of victims in IDP camps most of whom were women and innocent children were very worrisome, and that the federal government would not allow the unfortunate carnage to continue.
The Minister commended Ebonyi State Government for its pro-activeness in protecting lives and ensuring the welfare of her citizens and revealed that he had directed security personnel manning the troubled axis not to allow acts of impunity by those who take pleasure in killing to continue in their despicable act.
Governor David Nweze Umahi commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his prompt response to his passionate appeal for federal government’s intervention in the unfortunate crisis that has carried many lives and rendered people homeless.
Governor Umahi who expressed confidence in the ability of the present crop of leaders in governance to end the boundary wars which started more than 100 years ago, appealed to the minister to prevail on the Cross River State Government to co-operate with Ebonyi State in the plat form set for peaceful resolution of the crisis, to stop the senseless killings and intermittent destruction of property with careless abandonment.
He stated that as responsible government whose mandate it is to protect human lives, his administration was ever disposed to making peace with neighbouring states.
Governor Umahi suggested a review of the relevant sections of the constitution to give powers to the National Boundary commission to enforce boundary delineation to minimize boundary related crisis across the country.
He also advocate for the creation of State police as the most effective means of tackling issues of internal security in various communities.
