Gov.Umahi rejects Catholic Church Award
Ebonyi State Governor, Engr.Chief David Nweze Umahi has turned down on award given to him by St.Mulumba Catholic Church Azuiyiokwu, Abakaliki.
According to our reporter who witnessed the event can authoritatively report that the award was rejected on the ground that the church omitted the Governors picture and biography unlike other nominated awardees whose names appeared in the programme brochure of the 2018 Feast Day Award and Fund Raising Ceremonies in support of the church building project.
Giving reason for the rejection of the award ,Governor Umahi who was represented by the former ambassador to the Greece, Amb. franklin Nchita Ogbuewu frowned over the non inclusion of Governor's picture and details even when he was specially invited ;whereas other awardees have their pictures and biography in the brochure.
In his words " I must say that the Governor has always taken everything about churches serious ,but I worry why his picture does not appear in the brochure while other awardees are there.
"I wonder why his picture is missing, I am advising you to postpone the governor's award and once everything is arranged in order ,he will be here that day to receive it.
Amb.Ogbuewu lauded Governor Umahi for the rapid development projects in the state as well as his his major interest in supporting churches and building roads that linked to the churches of the catholics,Protestants, and other denomination in the State.
He revealed that the state governor is more Catholic than he is protestant as the ongoing ecumenical centre project when completed would be the biggest inter denominational worship centre in the country.
" I want to make the church to know that the Governor of Ebonyi State Engr.Chief David Nwaeze Umahi is more catholic than he is non catholic and he is the only Governor in Nigeria that has carved a new ministry for churches.
"The appointment and position of Rev.Abraham Nwali is as much as a ministry considering the provisions assigned to him.
" The governor has made it compulsory to construct roads to churches no matter the size, he must construct road to it and he is building a biggest Ecumenical centre in Nigeria here in Ebonyi State.
"I must say that the governor has always taken everything God and church serious.
The former Ambassador who left the church after making his stand known to the congregation and his entourage including Commissioner for Culture and Tourism ,Chief Mrs.Elizabeth Ogbaga advised me church to postpone the award until proper Arrangement is done.
In his reaction, Rt.Rev. Msgr.Jerome Okechukwu Anaeto,parish priest of St.Mulumba Catholic Church Azuiyiokwu appealed to the state Governor for forgiveness ,accepting that he was ignorant of the required protocol.
The priest said " My Excellency,you know an ignorant does not always know it all but I am sorry for that;don't be angry for we are sorry.
However, we learnt that all effort to convince the entourage to stay back for the award proves abortive as their leader insisted that he was officially sent for the programme and has no evidence in the brochure to show he was truly nominated for the award .
