Mass Death, Hunger Hit Igbeagu Community Amid Ukelle-Izzi Communal Clash

WHILE the two states of Cross River and Ebonyi State are focused on resolving crises that had displaced over 500 person of Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government Area who on weekend raised alarm for help as food price has skyrocket like never before.
Our reporter who visited the community gathered that the people of Iphe-Igwe,Azunwakpu,Nwankeleke,Okpodum among others who were displaced from their homes and taking refuge in neighbouring villages told us that they are finding it difficult to feed as food been that they ran away without food and food price has increased within the period.
According to one Mrs.Nwanka Pius who hails from Azunwakpu, one of the affected villages said that the family of Five(5) has so far faced difficulties providing food for the family since the incident happened as a bowl of fresh fufu(akpu) that was sold for three hundred now sells for six hundred naira.
She lamented that the family was unable to carry food stuff which made things worst as they can only feed through help received from sympathizers and money they raised through labouring on people's farm.
Mr.Ngele Ejali, an octogenarian farmer who is also polygamous told us that he has resorted to one square meal daily as the little tubers of yam they were able to carry was not enough to serve them for long, since they cannot predict when peace would return to the area.
He appealed to the State governments of both states to come together and bring lasting solution to the two warring communities.
Mr.Nwangele averred that until both governors of the two states through the concerned ministry of boundary demarcation adjust the boundary of both states to the acceptance of their people, else, land crises would remain annual ceremony there.
Our reporter further gathered that the cause of the increase in price of food commodities in the area was a result of fear of garri and other food stuff sellers travelling to both state central markets where food are sold in high quantity.
The displace persons called the government of State and those in the House of Senate and representative of the community to come to their aid ,whereas they should help to forestall peace as many lives have been wasted in the area.
It recall that on April, 2015 that the people of Ukelle attacked her sister community, Izzi people in Igbeagu community killing over 200 people and destroyed not less than 500 houses.
