Gov Umahi Applauds AE-FUNAI Over Tempo Of Academic Development

--Directs the reticulation of water to the University from Oferekpe Water Scheme BY Our Correspondent
The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has commended the tempo of academic development in Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo,of the State. The Ebonyi State helmsman gave the commendation recently when the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sunday Oge Elom led the University Management on a Christmas and New Year visit to the governor at his Uburu home. Addressing the Vice-Chancellor specifically, the governor said: “I want to commend you for the tempo of academic development in the University”, adding “We have you in our heart and we are very committed to being part of the solutions to the challenges the University is facing.” The Governor also used the opportunity to direct the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Sunday Inyima, to ensure that the University is provided with portable water from the Oferekpe mega water scheme to assuage the challenge of drinkable water in the institution. He further noted that the University occupies a strategic position in Ebonyi State; hence, his administration’s sustained relationship with the institution, pointing out that the road leading to the citadel of learning from the Nkwagu axis is being rehabilitated by the state government. Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the governor for his support to the University, ranging from the construction of an Engineering workshop to the construction and ongoing rehabilitation of the road leading to the institution as well as his yearly Christmas gifts to staff and students. Prof. Elom also appealed to the governor to direct the reticulation of water from the Oferekpe mega water scheme, when completed, to the University campus, to bring about a lasting solution to the issue of portable water in the institution.
