2023: Town Union Presidents Drum Support For Ebonyi Governor Of Izhi Extraction

BY NDUBUISI NWOGHA, ABAKALIKI Town union presidents numbering over twenty five on Wednesday, 8th February,2022 called on all political parties in Ebonyi state to maintain the equitable distribution and rotation of power in the state by zoning their governorship position to Ebonyi North.
The group leaders drawn from the twenty six communities of Izhi land among Abakaliki, Ebonyi and Izzi Local Government Areas of Ebonyi North zone said Ebonyi state has since the inception of democracy maintained zoning and power rotation and urged power brokers in the state to maintain the stand for the overall development of the state. This was made known when the team paid solidarity visit to APC gubernatorial aspirant, Chief Edward Okereke Nkwegu in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital. Speaking during the visit, the president General, Association of Izzi Development Union, and town union president Amagu Autonomous Community, Mr Augustine Akpu,JP called on the political leaders and power brokers in the state to maintain the equitable distribution and rotation of the gubernatorial position which would give Ebonyi North and Izhi people precisely the chance to produce the next governor of the state. The team highlighted that the state which it's leadership is built on sincere power rotation and trust if broken would be disastrous and inimical to the vision of the founding fathers of the state. While appealing to the political leaders of Izhi extraction to continue to show interest for the position,urged other zones of the Central and Ebonyi South to give their support to electing a credible leader who would maintain the path of development as has shown by the past leaders of the state. "We're calling on Izhi people to prepare for the governorship seat because this is our last chance to produce governor of the state having given support to other zones who should reciprocate same on the ground of equity, justice and inclusive government. On his part, The former House of Assembly member Ebonyi North-West Constituency, and Town Union President Agalegu Ishieke community ,Hon.Ken Ochigbo called on the people to ensure they obtain their permanent voter card. The former lawmaker called on their people especially those who secured new pooling units to endeavour to obtain voter card as that's the only measure to sustain the booth,else, would be shut down by the electoral body, INEC. Lending his voice, Hon Obeji Peter, Secretary of the union and town union president Ndiebor Ezza Inyimegu Autonomous Community advised those who're inciting hatred and division among Izhi people to desist from such ill act knowing that the people are more united than ever to fall to such cheap political propaganda. "We believe in equity, and calling on our people to rally round any aspirant chosen by any of the political parties as we are better united than divided over selfish interest. However, the APC gubernatorial aspirant, Chief Edward Nkwegu (EDON) commended the people for coming out to bare their minds on the political development and assured them that political leaders would to do their best for the overall interest of the state.
