Ebonyi Govt Inaugurates NAESS Executive,Charges Them On Transparency

By Ndubuisi Nwogha, Abakaliki The Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Students Affairs, Comrade Onwe Gideon on Thursday 3rd March, 2022 inaugurated new caretaker committee of National Association of Ebonyi State Students,NAESS, to pilot affairs of the body for the next six months.
Comrade Onwe perform the inauguration in his office at Old Government House, Abakaliki. Addressing the students, the Special Assistant noted that the inauguration of the new caretaker committee became imperative as to fill the vacuum created since the resignation of the past leadership.
"After our consultation with stakeholders of National Association of Ebonyi State Students, an indigenous students union body today inaugurates a caretaker committee that will pilot affairs of the students for the period of six months to enable them prepare for the union's election. "What we did today is to select students from the three zones and is seen to be the best among them like the president is the SUG president of Ebonyi State University and all members of the executive are active persons in students unionism. He charged the union leader to work together for the interest of the students and added that the new executive are expected to use the period to unite members as to prepare them for peaceful election. He further emphasized that students unionism is known to promote violence but cautioned the new executive to work in line with the union constitution as to promote peace and enabling environment for academic activities in the state. He further charged the students to see the call as an opportunity to explore their leadership strength, even as, they maintain transparent and ensure every interest of all students at home and in diaspora are protected. "So, I want you to know that NAESS is an association that covers students of Ebonyi State indigenes both at home and abroad. What it means is that all Ebonyi State Students both those in Ukraine, London and other part of the world is under this umbrella, therefore, whenever any of you irrespective of location found him or herself in a situation that he can't help himself, it's your responsibility to rally round and go to that particular students aid by making the situation known to the authority. "So, it's your responsibility to ensure that all students of Ebonyi State indigenes are united under this umbrella and I want you to know that every association in Ebonyi state is under the state government who should operate within the arm bit of the law. In his remarks, the newly appointed National President, Comrade Agbo Sunday Benjamin appreciated Ebonyi State government for the confidence repose on him and assured the students of working with the authority as to protect and improve welfare of the students. "I wish to commend our dear Governor, Engr David Umahi for approving the request of the SA on Students Affairs as to constitute this caretaker committee and assuring him that this mandate given to us today is with trust and we'll bring this association to an enviable height by building mutual understanding among students of Ebonyi State indigenes both those at home and abroad. "By his Grace, Ebonyi State indigenes will have course to smile as we are not going to operate only in town but also at the grass root as we take up this mandate.
On his part, the Coordinator of National Association of Nigeria Students zone B, Comrade Nwuruku Olisa applauded the state government for given consent to the yearning of the students. Comrade Nwuruku advised the students to work with the office of the SA as to promote the good policies and programmes of the state government for the interest of the students. Meanwhile, other members of the newly inaugurated caretaker committee are: Comrade Nwigwe Lucy as Vice president, Onuoha Ogbonnaya Lawrence, Secretary, comrade Ogwa Emmanuel Chijindu as PRO, and Nwuze Chukwudi as Provost. Others are,Ngamgbo Onyemaechi as financial secretary, comrade Ajoro Miracle,Director of Action and Mobilization, comrade Chukwu Umahi as Treasurer and Idenyi Daniel as Director of Welfare.
