Ebonyi Guber:Izzi Development Union writes PDP National, Zonal, stakeholders

--Demands Zoning Of Governorship To Ebonyi North Zone By Our reporter

As the clamour for which zone succeeds Governor David Umahi get tensed in Ebonyi state, concerned members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and major stakeholders of the party in Ebonyi North Senatorial district under the aegis of Izzi Development Association (IDA) have written to the leadership of the PDP demanding for the zoning of the gubernatorial seat in the state to the zone. The group leadership bare their minds in a memorandum sent to the National, Zonal, State Chairmen and Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi, regarding the zoning of the state governorship position. The memorandum dated Wednesday, 20th April 2022, was endorsed by the President General of IDA - Hon Chris Lebara, Hon Sabastine Obiya - National President IDA Youth Wing, Hon Nwaji Joseph Otakpo - PDP Stakeholder/Member Izzi LGA, Hon Uchenna Mbam- PDP Stakeholder/Member Abakaliki LGA, Mrs Nnamdi Awam - PDP Stakeholder/Member Ebonyi LGA and Hon Engr Joseph Ibinna - President Ebonyi LGA Youth Wing, after their extraordinary meeting involving all the major stakeholders of the union and the party at the national headquarters in Abakaliki. The association hinted that its membership cut across the Ebonyi North Zone and "have for some time been fretful about the zoning conundrum of the gubernatorial seat of the state and the political permutations therein for the 2023 elections." The group further stated "that based on the laid down precedence in the political equations of Ebonyi State, Senatorial districts have all time constituted the ground and basis for governorship zoning in the state since 1999. "That at no time in the history of PDP in Ebonyi State, has PDP contemplated governorship zoning based on Abakaliki block and Afikpo block." IDA, however, maintained that: "As a matter of fact, "we in PDP still uphold the party’s ideology of rotating the governorship position among the three zones for equity, fairness and progress of the party and the state. "The seemingly political imbroglio orchestrated by the strange peddled zoning to Abakaliki block is an alien concept to PDP and should be disregarded since the bloc is made up of Ebonyi North Senatorial district and Ebonyi Central senatorial district, which if the strange bloc concept is upheld, it will translate to political disproportionality in the state." The association declared that the claim of the Ebonyi Central zone to join the race and contend for the next governorship ticket is a conjecture of the alien political culture of the PDP. "That is 2015, the then sitting governor attempted to alter the party zoning ideology but the entire Ebonyi North Zone not only opposed it but fervently worked against such unfair alien political attitude for the best interest of the party, her leadership and her standing ideology." Disclosing their position, the members of the association urged the PDP family and her leadership 'to provide the guiding compass, by zoning the governorship position to Ebonyi North Senatorial zone where the PDP zoning began in 1999 and maintain the governorship rotation principle as a sacred and eternal political ideology." They noted that "Ipso-facto, zoning the governorship position to Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, no doubt will ultimately guide the current transition of the party in the forthcoming party primary elections as well as the expected victory in the general elections of the party. "It is, therefore, our considered opinion that the leadership of PDP in Ebonyi state will toe the path of equity, justice and fairness in resolving the political conundrum for the political prosperity of our great party. We wish that the above position of ours will be given the due priority it deserves."
