Ebonyi Youths make case for implementation of ENDSARS panels recommendations

By our Correspondent Youths in Ebonyi state have called on government for implementation of all recommendations from the ENDSARS judicial panels of enquries in Nigeria. The youths made the call in Abakaliki during a two day seminar for youths tagged " You matter in this matter Town Hall meeting", with a theme as" structuring group demands on Human Rights violations. Objectives of the seminar organized by a non governmental organization known as Youthhubafrica in collaboration with other patners were to enlighten participants about their Human Rights,to create structured pathways for citizens to report cases of Human Rights violations and to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between citizens and government to guarantee rapid national development.
The youths also demanded that the detailed copies of the recommendations be made available to the public and implemented to the later for progress of the nation. Speaking during the Townhall meeting/ seminar Field Officer for YouthHubAfrica in Ebonyi state Augustine Onwe reminded the youths that violence is not always best option to issues but dialogue and encouraged government to implement recommendations of the panels for the sake of equity, fairness and posterity. "The project you matter in this matter is a project that tries to emphasize that the life of everyone matters, both that of the citizens and those of the security agents. One of our expectations in this project is to ensure implementation of recommendations of all the ENDSARS panels in Nigeria. "If you remembered during that protest some demands were made and government made some promises but till now we are yet to see them fulfilled. From our findings some of this panels were suspended, some didn't seat at all ,some sat and made some recommendations to government, like our case in Ebonyi. The panel sat, completed the assignment and submitted their reports to the state government, but funny enough nothing have been heard about it again. " We expect the state government to start implementing some of the recommendations from the panel in a way of compensating people whose rights were trampled upon by the security agents in the state and reforming of the Nigeria police force. "The project is going on in four states for the federation Ebonyi,FCT, Bauchi and Oyo. We have carried out advocacy visits to the police, ministry of justice, National Human Rights commissions and many other agencies who took part in the ENDSARS panels as a view to guarantee implementations of their recommendations."
