Izzi Council Boss Warns Against Environmental Abuse, Inaugurates Taskforce Team

From Israel Ottah, Abakaliki The Executive Chairman Izzi Local Government Area, Barr Steve Nwankpa on Saturday, 24th September,2022 launched 'Operation Izzi Must Be Clean' and warned against incessant environment littering. This is coming inline with the directives of Ebonyi State Government, ably led by Engr David Umahi on state wide environmental sanitation as to make the state the most cleanliness in the country.

Speaking during the official declaration of the exercise at Iboko , Barr. Nwankpa maintained that Cleanest is next to Godliness. According to him, "The Task of taking care of our environment is everyone's responsibility. The Igbo Adage says, " Ebe onye bi ka o na awachi", meaning it is imperative for one to take care of his immediate surroundings.

"Environment is an existential threat , our land mass is shrinking as a result of gully wastage. Basically, study has shown that human activity or inactivity contributes largely to the cause of healthy and unhealthy environment. Therefore, it becomes imperative for everyone to be part of our environmental watchdog. He added, "Everyone must take responsibility and do his duty towards maintaining a healthy and clean -up of local Government Area. "On this note, we are establishing a community based approach with active community participation to be called " Iboko Urban sanitation Committee"The chairman stated.

Our Correspondent reports that members drawn from communities within the council and all persons who truly desire to offer voluntary services as environmental watchdogs that will help in protecting environment were seen voluntary participating in keeping the council headquarters Clean . However, the Council chairman inaugurated the sanitation committee to be led by Hon. Fidelis Nwuruku and tasked them to employ all necessary measures to ensure the area is made clean and conducive for inhabitants.

The executive chairman who warned against incessant environment abuse enjoined the people to key into the initiative by supporting the community based approach. He also admonished those adapted to open defecation to desist from such as it expose people to cholera and other deadly airborne diseases.

"Together we can safeguard our environment and make Ebonyi State , Izzi local Government a livable, clean, healthy, prosperous smart mega City." He further emphasized. End
