Ex Ebonyi Gov Egwu Loses 3rd Term Senatorial Bid To APC

The serving Senator representing Ebonyi North zone and former Governor, Dr Sam Egwu has lost his 3rd term senatorial ambition to the All Progressives Congress candidate, Barr Onyekachi Nwebonyi. Chief Nwebonyi who scored the highest number of votes cast with 65,863 against the Labour Party candidate, Ejiofor Vincent Chukwu, 42,283 emerged the winner. However, the ex-governor, Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu came third position with 26,569 votes.
According to the INEC Returning Officer for Ebonyi North senatorial district, Professor Nwogo Ajuka Obasi, made the announcement at Nkaliki, Abakaliki LGA Headquarters, Sunday. Recall that the former Commissioner for Urban Development, Barr Onyekachi Nwebonyi had earlier commended the electoral umpire for the introduction of the BVAS. Nwebonyi who spoke to newsmen at Mbeke primary school, appreciated voters for coming out en mass to participate in the year's exercise and assured them of proper representation when emerged. He however called on the INEC to improve on the performance of the electronic machines as they prepare for the 11th March governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
