Abakaliki North Re-run: Supporters Accuse APC of Vote Buying At EBSU Guest Polling Units
Voters at Ebonyi State University, EBSU Guest polling unit have accused the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Mr Maxwell Umahi of vote buying in the area.
The polling unit which houses three booths among EBSU primary school 1&2, and Guest house are fingered to had been marred by irregularities.
Recall that Abakaliki North State Constituency was declared inconclusive in the recent governorship and State House of Assembly elections held on 18th March.
Also, recall was that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Mr Chidi Victor Nwoke was leading with over 300 votes against his contender Mr Maxwell Umahi.
Speaking with voters, one Mr Sunday Nweke accused the agents of the All Progressives Congress, APC to had violated INEC's directive by secretly sharing money to voters who cast their votes, thereafter, display the ballot paper as evidence before leaving the booth to join the agents of the party who take him outside for his pay.
He Alleged that the security compromised by working with the All Progressives Congress who planted their agents to pay the sum of ten thousand naira to each voters who casted in their favour.
"I don't understand why the ruling party would be sharing money by working with security and through that made those who are voting to their favour to display the ballot paper after voting.
"The party agent leads the voter and pay them #10,000 thereafter. We are not happy and will not accept such result.
Reacting, the executive chairman Abakaliki LGA, Hon Ebere Nwogba described the allegation as watery as no such incident took place in all the booths visited.
He commended security agents and INEC for their professional conducts and maintained optimistic that the election would be free and fair.
The Executive Chairman who admitted that the machines are in good working condition assured voters that their votes would be counted.
Our Correspondent who monitored the exercise observed that there's high presence of security men as voters were retired inside St Joseph Catholic Chaplaincy where food items are been shared as at the time of filing this report.
