Ebonyi Assembly Harps On Importance of Third Tier Government

The Chairman of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and EBSIEC Matters who's also, member representing Izzi East Constituency, Rt Hon (Chief) Anthony Nwegede has stated that the essence of local government creation in Nigeria was to draw development closer to the rural areas . Chief Nwegede stated this at Isiaka, the Headquarters of Ivo Local Government Area when the House Committee on Local Government paid familiarization visit to the place.
The Chairman maintained that the Committee visit was not for witch-hunting but to ensure compliance with specification's and standards projects as contained in the project approvals ,to tally with the already set standards by the State Government under the leadership of Engr David Umahi. He expressed satisfaction on the projects embarked on by Ivo Council Chairman especially Atam Umubor Akaeze bridge which he said was in line with the project specifications and at 95 percent Completion. Speaking during the visit , Mr Friday Nwuhuo , Mr Chinedu Onah and Mr Victor Chukwu said the Committee visit was to ensure that only people oriented projects are embarked upon not leaving the welfare of the people behind. Earlier, The Executive Chairman, Ivo Local Government Area, Hon Ajah Emmanuel Obinna said that the council has ensured execution of quality and meaningful projects which have been completed and ongoing. He enumerated the projects to include Atam Akaeze bridge, Construction of culverts, mini bridges, construction of roads, on going renovation of courts building and empowerment programmes, among others In a vote of thanks, the majority leader Ivo legislative Council Hon Joshua Ogba thanked the Committee for the visit and informed the House that the council Chairman has always carried councilors along and equally maintains good and harmonious working relationship with his workers. The visit included other members of the Committee, Hon Moses Ije Odunwa, Hon Lilian Chinwe Nwachukwu, Hon Joseph Ununu, Hon Nkemka Okoro Onuma and Hon Benjamin Ezeoma.
