10th National Assembly:Ebonyi North Senator-Elect Debunks Report Of Backing Akpabio

Ebonyi North Senator-Elect, Barr Onyekachi Peter Nwebonyi has debunked the report alleged to back the former Akwaibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio for the president of the Senate of the 10th Assembly. In a statement issued by the media aide, Amb Valentine Nwori, for Ohamadike Support Group described the earlier publication as false and watery propaganda.

The statement reads: "Our attention has been drawn to the puerile and watery propaganda being circulated on the social media and bloggers, Saint Akpomomiemie blogspot and the NationalPanelNews which reads: “SENATE PRESIDENCY: EBONYI SENATOR-ELECT MAKES U-TURN, BACKS AKPABIO.” "The blogger alleged that the Senator-elect for Ebonyi North Senatorial zone, Chief Barrister Onyekachi Nwebonyi has called on his distinguished colleagues especially those from the South East to work for the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President of the 10th Assembly in order to build bridges of unity across different geopolitical zones. "It’s worthy to note that the position of Senate President is open for contest from both ranking and non-ranking Senators. Interestingly, many eminent personalities from different geopolitical zones including the Governor of Ebonyi state and the Senator-elect for Ebonyi South Senatorial district, His Excellency, Chief Engineer David Nweze Umahi have indicated interest in vying for the coveted position. It added, "Even though Governor Umahi is a greenhorn at the Red Chambers, he is eminently qualified to lead the National Assembly as Senate President. His cognate experience as Party Chairman, Deputy Governor, Executive Governor and Chairman South East Governor’s Forum prepared him for any leadership position in the country. "Moreover, it is a considered opinion that the position of the Senate Presidency should be zoned to the South East to give them a sense of belonging. The cap fits Governor Umahi considering his miraculous magic wand in Ebonyi state. "Therefore, the Senate Standing Rules ought to amended to pave way for meritocracy instead of mediocrity. It’s therefore strange and preposterous to allege that Chief Nwebonyi would be canvasing support for another person outside the Governor of Ebonyi state and Ebonyi South Senator-elect, Chief Engineer David Nweze Umahi who has shown much competence and capacity in leadership. The general public is therefore invited to discountenance the baseless rumour as it’s the handiwork of mischief makers who are hell-bent fomenting bad blood between Chief Nwebonyi and his mentor.
