Residents Cry Out As Wastes Takeover Abakaliki Metropolis

Residents of Abakaliki Metropolis, the Ebonyi State capital have expressed dismay over the careless littering and abandonment of waste at various streets in the urban. According to our correspondent who went round some parts of the city observed on Thursday that waste dumps are no longer cleared leaving everywhere with pungent odour. Speaking with some of the residents, Mr Francis Obiajulu, pat medicine shop owner, described the development as worrisome and stated that a dump site opposite his shop has been abandoned for over one month scaring customers away from the shop.
Obiajulu who appealed to the state governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to rise to duty as to save the urban residents from disease breakout occasioned by the littering. "If you go round the town, you will see that all the dump sites in all the streets are no longer be cleared every two days as it was before now. "We understand that the transition in government must have been the reason for the development of which contractors and workers who use to do them are empowered by the former governor, Engr David Umahi. "It will be highly appreciated if the new administration led by Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru swing into action and arrest the situation as waste are now carelessly drop even along the busy street.
Another resident who is a fashion designer at Calabar street lamented over the health implication of the abandoned waste and noted her health failure which she attributed to the long time evacuation of the waste. Also in our interactions, Mrs Nnenna Obasi,a trader, Miss Nwoche Blessing and Mr Obinna Nwofoke, appealed to the state governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to introduce measures as to arrest the ugly situation. Meanwhile, when contacted the Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor on the matter, he explained that the state governor has issued directive to the concerned ministry as to maintain the regular cleaning up of the state.
