Scheme: NYSC Not A Call To Punish Patriotic Nigerians~Ebonyi Youths And Sports Commissioner

Ebonyi state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon Richard Ugo Idike has on Monday stated that NYSC scheme not a call to punish serving Corps members . The Youths and Sports Commissioner made the remarks while responding to requests made by the state Coordinator,Mrs Nasamu Olayinka during their familiarization visit at his office, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki. Hon Idike noted that NYSC is a scheme meant for national integration and not an avenue to punish patriotic young Nigerians and assured the state Coordinator of adequate support and collaboration to improving their welfare.

The Commissioner who described the state governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as a youth friendly leader assured that all the issues affecting smooth running of the scheme in the state would be properly tackled. He assured the state Coordinator and team of quick intervention and noted that all the areas that needed urgent attention would be tackled immediately for the interest of the expectant batch.

Earlier, Ebonyi state Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs Nasamu Olayinka Diana has reiterated their readiness to work with the state government for smooth running of their activities. Olayinka who applauded Ebonyi state government for their continuous support, appealed for more synergy to enable them fulfil the scheme's mandate in the state. She lamented over non payment of stipend to Corps members especially the doctors which in the recent past forced those posted in the state to apply for relocation and urge the state governor to urgently address it as the medical doctors do alot in terms of community health improvement. The state Coordinator who applauded the state governor for giving the state orientation camp facelift, noted that the camp has no electricity, and added that roofs in the camp are having leakage, hence, the state Boss has no accommodation and mobility for smooth running of office jobs. However, the state Coordinator, Mrs Nasamu Olayinka was accompanied by the staff and board members of National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, as event witnessed by Special Assistant to Ebonyi state Governor on Youths and Sports, Hon Pius Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,Engr Ojiogu among others.
