Danger Looming! Aniekwena Bridge Nears Collapse

Aniekwena bridge of Iyiudele river located along Aiekwena street inside Abakaliki metropolis has posed serious fear to pedestrians who called on government to urgently intervene in the area as to save the imminent danger.
The bridge was affected by erosion destroying some part of the busy road leaving road users to fear.
Speaking with one of the residents, Mr Alex Ugwu explained that the busy road was affected by erosion after the completion of Iyiudele NEWMAP project and since was left a death trap.
He said that the bridge has posed serious fear on pedestrians as the street connected the busy Nkwogu junction.
He called on the Executive chairman of Abakaliki Council Area, Hon Ebere Nwogba and the ministry of Works to urgently intervene in the erosion so as to curb the impending danger.
Another resident, Elizabeth Nkwede revealed that the bridge had earlier attracted attention of some a passer-by who promised the people living in the area that government would soon address the road but never showed up over the past two months.
She stated that bridge continued collapsing on daily basis since the heat of the rainy season and urged the concern authority to urgently intervene in the site as to save lives of the road users.
Other pedestrians who spoke including Miss Amarachi Okeh, and Mr Eseli Louis appealed to the state and local governments chairman to quickly intervene in the bridge as to restraint imminent lost of people's lives.
