By Nwinne Sunday, Abakaliki
A Security Expert in Ebonyi State, Mr. Johnson Ugwu and the State Director, Justice, Human Rights Protection and Defense Organization, JHRPD, Mr. Silas Akubuiro has called on the State Governor, Rt. Hon Francis Nwifuru to without further delay redeploy the Commissioner for Internal Security, Mr. Etta Uka and appoint a more, experienced, matured, competent and committed person to sustained the gains so far achieved in the security of lives and properties of citizens in the State. Mr. Ugwu who is a Retired Police officer said that from observation the security of the lives and and properties of the citizens of the State has been a major priority of the State Governor but expressed concern over the high-handedness and lack of coordination of the security architecture of the State by the Commissioner for Internal Security.
The Security Expert noted that deploying a professional tailor based in Aba, Abia State who has never been in the State to handle the coordination of the Security of the State is counter productive adding that so far, Mr. Uka is at lost with the workings of the security of the State. "Let me commend the State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru for the appointments made. He has given the youths their pride of place in the governance of the State. Most of his appointments are laudable and I must also commend him for the level of achievement so far recorded in the area of security. "His appointment of Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants on Internal Security in the 13 Local Government Area of the State has also help immensely in assisting the police, the military and other security agencies in the fight against crime and other criminal activities in the State. "As a security Expert who is desirous of sustaining the gains so far made in the area of security, it is pertinent to advise the Governor to without further delay, redeploy the Commissioner for Internal Security. The call is not based on bias or witch-hunt but in the interest of the security of lives and properties in the State. "The Commissioner who is a Professional tailor based in Aba, Abia State does not have any knowledge or incline concerning the security architecture of the state. He has exhibited high level of high-handedness and lack of coordination among the security agencies in the State. "His job to the best of my knowledge is not to move from one local government Council Chairman's office to another receiving N100,000 as cash gift. His job is to work with the SSAs and SAs on Internal Security in the 13 LGA and curb all forms of insecurity in the State. "Regrettably, the menace of Kidnapping, Killings and shooting in some parts of the State happened under his watch without any result until the Governor intervened. A more suitable person should be deployed to the office without further delay. Similarly, the Human Right activist, Mr. Akubuiro has also urged Governor Nwifuru not to use security for political patronage but should see security as a delicate office that requires competence, pragmatism and political zeal to succeed. "Ebonyi have had it's fair share of insecurity and it will be disastrous if the situation worsens. The situation is gradually coming under control but there is the need for a more competent professional to handle the office of the Internal Security. "As a Human Right Group, we have had reasons to communicate the Commissioner on some security challenges in some parts of the State but to our greatest surprise, he seems to be at lost with the information being passed across to him. "The office needs someone who is on ground. Someone who understands the workings of security in the state and someone who is proactive. We are advocating that a redeployment of the commissioner has become imminent. Ends.
