Ebonyi lawmaker advocates for proper sensitization on gender base violence protection

The member representing Abakaliki North State Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Victor Nwoke has charged the leadership of the Abakaliki LGA Gender-Based Violence taskforce team to incorporate various communities in their activities to ensure the desired result.
Nwoke stated this when the GBV taskforce team paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Legislative Complex Nkaliki Road Abakaliki.
The lawmaker stressed the importance of peace to the development of society and maintained that peace starts from the family cycle and advised them to eschew every element of domestic violence which he said is the bedrock of Gender-based Violence.
He stressed that proper sensitization to the community leaders including traditional rulers in their area of operations would be best approach to tackling the menace.
He urged the team to work in collaboration with the State Family Law Centre and the Welfare Officers of Abakaliki Local Government Area which he said have records of domestic violence for more positive results.
The lawmaker pledged of his support for the progress of the projects adding that the state House of Assembly would not hesitate to give legislative barking to aid in its smooth operations in the state.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Gender-Based Violence Team in Abakaliki Local Government Area, Mr. Ikenna Aja, and Mrs Esther Uro said the visit was to familiarize themselves with the law-maker and to inform him of the membership of the task force which was selected from five principal Communities that made up Abakaliki Local Government Area.
The duo informed Hon Nwoke that the team had been properly trained by the Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme which charged them to be good ambassadors working for the total eradication of Gender-Based Violence in their area of coverage and State at large.
In a vote of thanks, Mr. Inya Chukwuemeka extolled the peaceful nature of the law-maker and thanked him for the warm reception accorded them.
