David Umahi Varsity Will End Medical Tourism If Passed Into Law~Senator Ani

Senator representing Ebonyi South District, Prof Anthony Ani has explained that the tertiary institution with the nomenclature, David Umahi University of Health Sciences would drastically reduce the rate of foreign medical trips in Nigeria. The senator who seconded the motion for its passage into law made the disclosure while addressing newsmen recently.

Senator Ani while supporting the bill proposed by his Ebonyi North Zone counterpart, Barrister Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi added that the institution with adequate standard medical equipment and laboratory apparatuses would serve Nigerians optimally.

According to him, "The University already functioning is run by the state government and if this bill is passed, the higher institution will automatically become the Federal Medical University and the case of embarking on medical trips outside Nigeria will become a thing of the past. The Senator further stated that the university with conducive learning environment and facilities would not only produce qualified medical professionals but also cushion the effects of mass exodus of doctors outside the country and encouraged his colleagues to support the passage of the bill, (Act 2024).
