Ebonyi State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has called on Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to revive the State owned football club, Ebonyi Angels and other Sporting activities that have gone moribon. The Chairman of SWAN in Ebonyi State, Nnaji, Emmanuel Anike, made this known in an interview with our correspondent. Nnaji Emmanuel said the Ebonyi Angel and sporting activities received little or no attention during the previous administration in the state under Governor Martin Elechi and Governor David Umahi which has hampered the growth of Sports in the State. He maintained that sports is a booming business which should not be overlooked by government at all levels mostly with the need to meaningfully engage youths. Nnaji called on banking institutions and other companies domiciled in the state as well as Ebonyians both those at home and in the diaspora to support Nwifuru's administration in the area of sports with the view of sponsoring sporting activities and competitions in the State. He commend Governor Francis Nwifuru for much he has done in promoting and sponsoring football competition in Abakaliki and in Ebonyi Development Centres when he was the Speaker of the State Assembly and the recently concluded competition hosted as the Governor Ebonyi State. "We encouraged others to emulate him to enable sports development in the State. The state Chairman expressed confidence on Governor Nwifuru Welfare system of administration, saying that sports should receive the needed attention just like Human Capital Development is doing now in Ebonyi. Nnaji Emmanuel also urged Principals and head teachers in the State to ensure that they have a formidable sports structure in their schools as education and sports goes hand-in-hand.
