Scholarship: Ebonyi Lawmaker disburses fund to indigents students

The lawmaker representing Izzi West constituency in Ebonyi state House of Assembly and chairman committee on Public Accounts and Skill Development, Hon Abiri Godwin Abiri has disbursed millions of naira to the benefitting students of his scholarship scheme.
Issuing the cheques at the award giving ceremony at his Abakaliki residence, the founder, Abiri Scholarship Scheme Foundation,Hon Godwin Abiri said education remains the central coordinating sector of all human endeavours.
The lawmaker maintained that all required attention must be given to the educational sector by both government and individuals.
The Lawmaker maintained that the purpose of sponsoring the scholarship programme was to complement the effort of the state government and equally to make sure that the indigents and intelligent students are well educated.
He added that the scholarship programme would help to curb the youths restivness and other social vices and that the scheme would equally include skill development.
Hon Abiri commended the members of Abiri Godwin Scholarship Foundation for been prudent in their search for the indigents and intelligent undergraduates of the constituency in all the Nigerian tertiary institutions.
He lauded the state goverrnor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for introducing internal democracy which he said jettisoned politics of bitterness and acrimony and ensured dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
He appealed to the people to continue supporting the APC-led government in the state which has ensured rapid transformation in both infrastructural and human development.
The chairman of the scholarship committee, Mr Paulinus Alegu said the selection of the beneficiaries for the scheme was based on merit and justice reflecting seven wards in Izzi West constituency in which twenty five students were selected.
He said that the gesture would promote literacy and proper upbringing of indigents and intelligent students.
An elder statesman, and former national assembly member,RT Hon Chief Innocent Ugochima commended the state lawmaker for using his meagre resources to put smile on the faces of his people regatdless of the short stay in office.
The Secretary of the Scholarship Committee, Mr Sylvester Awam, Princess Nancy Ebili and other members said the programme of the foundation would have a lasting impact on the people and therefore commend Hon Abiri for the gesture which they discribed as a true collaborative efforts in uplifting the standard of education in Izzi land.
In an interview, beneficiaries among, Mr Christian Nwoga Solomon and Miss Nkwagu Uzoamaka Nkwuda appreciated the lawmaker and said that the money would be judiciously use for the purpose it was given.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries it was said are to receive the money till their graduation in the university.
