Ebonyi LG Election: Former Minister,Council Chairman, Others Applaud Electorates for Massive Turn Out
An elder stateman and the former Minister of Power and steel, Chief Godwin Ogbaga and the All Progressives Congress, (APC) aspirant of the Izzi Local Government Area election, Steve Nwankpa with other stakeholders of the party commended the people for turning out en mass to exercise their franchise in the 20th July Local Government Area and Councillorship election.
However, the Ebonyi state chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Douglas Ochishi equally appreciated the youth for participating fully in the exercise.
"Before today, I granted press briefing calling on our youths to cultivate the right culture by coming out to exercise their rights by voting for the Local Government and ward Councillorship election.
"One of the challenges we are having in the country today is people showing attitude of laxity, I don't care attitude towards electing their leaders, but since morning that I have been touring around like the Sudan United Mission unit Onuenyim Agaja and Central School where I visited, can boldly say that there's high level of youths turn out for the election.
Speaking, the chairmanship contestant of the Izzi Local Government Area, Steve Nwankpa who appreciated electorates for their turn out said that when re-elected would not hesitate to adopt the template of the state governor, Francis Nwifuru by "focusing on giving basic necessities of life, improve on the wellbeing of our people base on their major needs, opening new roads and consolidating on the projects of our first tenure.
Nwankpa, who reiterated that he would make the health care of the people a priority adding that more attention would be given to education as generation that fail to address the educational needs of the people would have a fail future.
He pledged to identify the needs of the people at the grassroot and tackle it with the available resources while stating that "We will be more of a leader rather than politicians as leaders think about the future of the people while politicians think about the next election.
The state Commissioner for Health, Mr Moses Ekuma, and Senior Special Assistant to the governor on governor's office,Mr Uchenna Nwamkpuma said the massive turn out was orchestrated by the state governor's style of leadership anchored on people charter of needs which made the environment peaceful for everybody to participate fully in the exercise.
Also, in an interview, Mr Nwamkpuma Titus, an electorate and Mr Egbeta Godwin, Personal Assistant to the governor thanked Journalists for giving their time to monitor the election and described the election as free, fair and credible election.
