Catholic Women Honour Ebonyi Senator, Prof. Ani
The members of National Catholic Women Organization (NCWO) on Saturday 10th August, 2024 bequeathed merit award to the Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial district, Professor Anthony Okorie Ani at St. Mary Parish, Afikpo.
Addressing members of the church, the President of the organization, Mrs. Bernedette Ngozi Onwa said that the award, “OCHIRIOZUA” is a reciprocal gesture to the recipient over his enormous humanitarian services to the society.
“Today, our members have deemed it necessary to recognize our Distinguished Senator, Professor Anthony Ani who has shown exemplary life in his field of endeavour in Ebonyi State and beyond.
“He has uplifted the dignity of womanhood both in the church and the society by caring for the widows and the indigent persons.
Thus, this award is meant to remind him that he has been our source of encouragement and urge him never to relent in his selfless services” she explained.
The recipient, Senator Ani represented by his nephew, Mr. Wilson Ogbonnnaya Okereke applauded the people for the special recognition and their contributions to the development of the communities.
“The theme of this annual convention; The Dignity of Womanhood is captivating and I’m appealing that the teaching should be part and parcel of your lives on daily basis for a better society.
“I can say vividly that there are various cases of divorce and other marital crises in the society nowadays due to many factors but I believe that what you have learnt throughout this period of the programme will go a long way to change the narrative, so I really commend both the organizers and the resource persons” he said.
He thanked the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Most Rev.Dr.Peter Nworie Chukwu and the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Dr. Simon Acha for the nobility and commended men generally for giving their wives the opportunity to participate in the event.
We gathered that the similar gestures were extended to the wife of the state governor, Mrs. MaryMaudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Patricia Onyemachi Obila and other personalities.
