Ebonyi State Government Reiterates Commitment To Food Security
Ebonyi state government has reiterated its commitment to tackling food insecurity towards ensuring that government lands are fully utilized.
The state chairman, Agricultural land Development Authority, Mrs Loveth Enekwachi-Akpa made the disclosure when she led members of the board to a consultative land accessment meeting at Ezza North Council headquarters,Ebiaji.
She stated that the board is charged with the responsibility of exploring Ebonyi state government owned lands for agricultural development, production, formulation and implement agricultural policies and programmes of the state.
The Executive secretary, Maxwell Nwali emphasized that the visit became necessary to enumerate government owned farmlands for proper agricultural development.
Earlier, the Ezza North Council Chairman, Ogodo Ali-Nomeh commended the state government for initiating the board and emphasized the need for supporting the board to ensure they succeed.
Ogodo-Ali who was former state Commissioner for Agriculture and Mineral Resources gave details of all the government owned lands in the area saying that he initiated the idea of board in the ministry as many agricultural fertile lands are wasting in the state.
The representative of Nigeria Labour Congress, Professor Ogugua Egwu, member of the Board, Christopher Nwogha and Prince John Nwenewor all commended the Council Chairman for his sincere support to the new policy of the government.
On his part, the Traditional Ruler Ekwetekwe Ogbuinyagu autonomous community in Ezza North local government area,His Royal Highness Ezeogo Samuel Ofiagu appreciated Ebonyi state for the wonderful initiative stating that government investing in those lands would attract roads in the rural areas and assured of his community support.
The government owned lands includes: Amuda Oshiegbe, Ekwetekwe Ogbuinyagu, Amaawula among others.
