Yuletide: Philanthropist Donates Christmas Gift To Over 40 Widows, Less Privileged Persons In Ebonyi

In the spirit of Christmas celebration, a philanthropist, Mr Monday Elom has distributed gift items to forty five widows and over one hundred elders and less privileged people in Edda Community of Abakaliki Local Government Area in Ebonyi state.
Monday who is the Executive Director, Molompet Nigeria Ltd, made the distribution at St Mary's primary school Azuofia Edda on Tuesday. Addressing newsmen shortly after the disbursement, the benefactor, Mr Elom said that he distributed the Christmas gift as a way to cushion the effects of hardship faced by Azuofia Edda people who had suffered due to government neglect since after the end of communal crisis with their sister Cross River community in the border community that occured in 2017.
The donor who said that the event has been an annual programme meant to touch lives of the downtrodden in the once war ravaged area lamented that his people are suffering, hence, donated the items to ameliorate their plights. While commending the Ebonyi state Governor, Francis Nwifuru for his people's oriented government, appealed to the stakeholders including federal lawmakers representing the zone to intervene in the provisions of social amenities to the people of Edda Community.
The chairman of the occasion, Ogbuefi Emmanuel Nwokpoku, Executive Director Immaco Ltd described the donor as a man who has interest of his people at heart and commend him for the good will. On his part, the Executive Director, Mbamson Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, who donated some cartons of maggi and street lights in the spirit of solidarity for the event, thanked the Chief host for remembering the downtrodden and prayed for more blessings upon him.
Earlier, the All Progressives Congress National Treasurer, Mr Mathew Uguru represented in the event by the Coordinator of Enyi-Edda Development Center, Reuben Edeh thanked the organizers for bringing succor to the people and called on other illustrious sons of Edda to toe the path for the overall development of the area.
Also, the All Progressives Congress,(APC) Chairman Abakaliki Local Government Area, High Chief Paulinus Atam applauded Mr Elom for his continuous promotion of welfare of the people and assured them that government would soon address their needs.
In an interview, beneficiaries including Comrade Igwe Innocent, a retired Head Master,Mr Nwode Ogodo and Mrs Josephine Oketa thanked the organizer and urged Ebonyi state government, and well meaning individuals and organizations to come to their aid by emulating the kind gesture of the donor.
Recall that the gift items donated to the widows, elders, and less privileged people in the community by Mr Elom were two huge cows, over one hundred 25-kg bags of rice, cartons of maggi seasoning, salt, assorted drinks and cash gifts. The highlights of the event includes masquerades display, okperegede dance and woman cultural troupe.
