Ebonyi Govt Arrests Contractor of Model School For Using Substandard Material

The executive council committee set up by the Ebonyi state governor, Francis Nwifuru's to monitor the ongoing construction of 39-modern schools across the three zones in the state has arrested acclaimed site Engineer, one Mr Zyl Okafor, for using substandard material.

The committee chairman and State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Richard Ugo-Idike gave the directive during the project monitoring noting that the contractors handling the projects at Onicha and Ohaozara Council area are not showing up based on the contract agreement.

The committee frowned on high level of negligence showed by contractors handling the projects in the two Local Government Areas over the slow pace of job ongoing in the zone, hence, ordered for the arrest of one Zyl Okafor who's a site Engineer at Ebia Oshiri Comprehensive Secondary School in Onicha Local Government Area for fraudulent activity and using of substandard material in execution of job in the site.

According to the team leader,"We are not happy with all the contractors in this two Local Government Area, they are not serious at all. If we should allow them to continue at this low pace they can't even finish this project in two years time ".

The committee expressed satisfaction at the quality of work ongoing at Kpakpaji High school Ezzama and encouraged the contractor to keep it up. However, all the contractors handling various projects at Onicha and Ohaozara Council Area were ordered to appear before the committee with their work plan on Wednesday (tomorrow)before 10AM at the ministry of Youth Development and Sports, block 9, centenary city, Abakaliki.
