Ebonyi Govt issues ultimatum to contractors of 39 modern schools project

The Ebonyi state Commissioner for Youths Development and Sports and committee chairman on modern school projects monitoring, Richard Ugo-Idike has directed the contractors handling the 39-modern schools projects across the three senatorial zones to meet the deadline before EXCO 30th April or be ready to face the consequences.

This is even as the committee ordered NC2 Project Limited, one of the contractors which is handling Izhia Girls Secondary School in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state to suspend work in the site over inadequate job delivery.

According to the team leader, Idike noted that the Executive arms of the government led by Governor, Francis Nwifuru in the presence of all the Executive Council members formed the committee to enable them assist the government in ensuring that the various contractors handling the 39 modern schools projects delivers quality jobs within the contract agreement time frame. He added that all the modern schools building has 22-classrooms blocks aimed at ensuring quality, effective and conducive education in the State.

"Today, the Exco committee on the 39 modern schools projects monitoring visited six different schools within Ebonyi north zone. The committee which toured project sited within Ebonyi North frowned at the level of work at all the sites considering the time the state government have mapped out for the commissioning of the projects. They expressed total disappoinment with the quality of work at Izhia Girls Secondary School in Ohaukwu Local Government Area by NC2 Project Ltd and ordered for immediate stop of work at the site for the sake of Ebonyi Children.

On his part, the supervising ministry, Ministry of Education Commissioner, Prof Mathew Nwobashi said they had in time past stopped work at the same site due to low quality of work and later the contractor promised to improve but it's unfortunate he refused to improve and we can't take it. he stated The committee is expected to visit all the 39 modern school structures sited across the 13 LGA of Ebonyi State by the state government.

However, the committee have Hon Richard Ugo-Idike as Chairman, Prof Nwogo as Secretary, Hon Sunday Inyima, Prof Paul Nwobashi, Hon Sunday Ogbonnia, Hon Cletus Ike as members. Accompanied by a Qty Surveyor-Achi Kenneth and a Builder- Bldr Ugbo Obasi Okoro.
