Defend FON Cup: Mechanic Site FC Defeats Scrap FC 3-0 In Opening Game

In their opening match of the Defend FON Unity Urban Cup competitio, the Mechanic Site FC kicked off their game with an emphatic 3-0 win over Scrap FC at the Presbyterian church field in Abakaliki.

The reunion football competition introduced by member representing Abakaliki North state constituency in Ebonyi state House of Assembly, Hon Victor Chidi Nwoke featured artisans, and traders who will struggle to win a trophy of unity. The state lawmaker described the football game as a show of payback to constituents who despite all odds stood with him in the 2023 general election and to thank them for their support to the ongoing administration led by Governor Francis Nwifuru whose policy on sports has revitalize the sector prompting the state government establishment of Abakaliki Football Club.

He commended the state governor, Nwifuru saying that sports remains a veritable tool to champion unity and urged Ebonyi youth to shun drugs abuse and its related social vices assuring the sustenance of the football game after the first phase. The Machine Parts Dealers Chairman, Comrade Ogbuefi Nwabueze Awoke described the victory of his team as a win for all. He commended the state governor for reawakening the spirit of sports in the state and thanked the state lawmaker, Hon Nwoke for his sincere representation and assured of their continuous support to the ongoing administration in the state.

However, the member representing Ezza South State Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Friday Ogbuewu lauded the host and colleague for the lofty programme saying that members would continue to work inline with the people's charter needs manifesto of governor Francis Nwifuru's administration in its human capacity development. The event attracted the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Prince Richard Ugo-Idike, state Commissioner for Work, Engr Lebechi Mbam, Hon Godwin Abiri, Ebonyi state chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Samson Nwafor, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN state Chairman, Comrade Ndubuisi Nwogha among others.
