2025 National Sports Festival: Go Make Ebonyi Proud~Gov.Nwifuru Tasks Contingents

Ebonyi state Governor, Francis Nwifuru has called on contingents who are to represent the state in the 2025 National Sports Festival in Abeokuta , Ogun state capital to make the state proud.

Governor Nwifuru gave the charge while addressing the ninety one contingents and its officials at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki on Friday. The governor represented by the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Comrade Hillary Obiessi described Governor Nwifuru as a sports-loving leader whose unwavering support has positioned Ebonyi as an emerging powerhouse in Nigeria’s sporting sector.

He described discipline, unity, and proper conduct as necessary characters of a good athlete, and urged athletes to maintain the image of the state in the good light. Obiessie praised the state’s Director of Sports, describing him as a seasoned icon in Nigeria’s sporting community, and encouraged athletes to report any challenges for swift resolution by the leadership team.

Highlighting the emergence of Abakaliki FC, the state-owned football club now in the NNL semi-finals of the Nigeria Challenge Cup, Obiessie pointed to it as a symbol of Ebonyi’s rapid progress under the current administration.

The Director of Sports and Chairman of the All Directors of Sports Forum in Nigeria, comrade Emmanuel Utobo reaffirmed the team's preparedness and acknowledged the state continuous investment in sports development as a catalyst for recent successes. In an interview , some of the contingents including Esther Anya and Wilfred David shared their determination to make the state proud by winning gold medals at the games. Meanwhile, Ebonyi contingents will be participating in wrestling, Swimming, Taekwondo among other competitions.
