Just In:Ebonyi Ex-Speaker Dumps PDP, Joins APC

The former speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and immediate past member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency,Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the, All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwazunku made the formal declaration of his defection at Ugwuachara during the Echiaba Ward All Progressives Congress, APC Meeting, held at the residence of Hon. Amobi Nwofoke , Chairman of the party in Echiaba Ward. The former speaker, Hon. Nwazunku was warmly received into the APC alongside several other notable figures from the PDP, including the party’s 2023 Senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi North, Hon. Emeka Otozi, the Ward Chairman in Echiaba, and numerous political allies.

Receiving the defectors on behalf of the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, the Chairman of the party in Ebonyi Local Government Area, Chief Patrick Orogbo , congratulated them for their courageous and strategic decision. He assured them of equal opportunities and inclusion within the party structure, emphasizing that the party remains committed to internal democracy, transparency, and inclusiveness, regardless of political background or previous affiliation.

In his remarks, the All Progressives Congress Chairman of Echiaba Ward, Hon. Nwofoke Amobi, commended the Governor of Ebonyi State for his sterling performance in office over the past two years. He noted that the governor’s outstanding developmental strides have significantly diminished opposition in the state, gradually transforming Ebonyi into a unified political entity.

Speaking shortly after his official defection, Chief Nwazunku disclosed that, although he had physically remained in the Peoples Democratic Party that his spirit had long since departed from the party due to its diminishing internal coherence and relevance. He explained that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress was inspired by the remarkable accomplishments of the Governor of Ebonyi State Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the national level.

He pledged to mobilize his supporters across the state to ensure the resounding success of the APC, particularly in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

The well-attended meeting also drew other key party stakeholders from within and outside the ward, including the Coordinator of Echiaba Development Centre, Hon. Prince Friday Oketa; the Secretary of the APC in Ebonyi Local Government, Comrade Uchenna Iziogo; and hundreds of enthusiastic decampees who were all formally welcomed into the APC fold.
