A Germany based philanthropist, Mr. Onyekachi Nwani on Saturday 28th June, 2025 empowered fifteen indigents persons selected across Okposi Autonomous Community with N100, 000 each in Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State. Addressing the beneficiaries, the coordinator of the event and Traditional Ruler of the community, His Royal Highness, Onyibe Dr. Cosmas Nnaemeka Agwu said that Mr. Nwani partnered with a known organization, Obi-Igbo RHEIN MAIN E.V. Frankfurt, Germany to cushion the effect of the sufferings of his subjects with the gifts.
He added that the money was meant to boost the businesses of the beneficiaries comprising farm works, tailoring and petty trades to enable them cater for their individual families needs. According to him, the benefactor was stimulated by the need to help the people who are majorly widows so that they would be able to provide their children and wards with basic education and other trainings stressing that the empowerment would be periodically monitored to ensure that it is properly utilized.
“This empowerment will be monitored in every six month to ensure that the beneficiaries sustain the given capital and once the desired result is noticed in two consecutive times, they will be permanently allowed to own their businesses and operate without interferences. “This is why I am advising them not to venture into any business that they are not conversant with rather they should expand the ones that they are already doing” he said. HRH Agwu described the gift as the first of its kind in his kingdom and commended the benefactor who happens to be his nephew for remembering such class of persons rather investing in frivolous items as fleet of cars and other related items and appealed to other big shots to emulate such gesture. The Traditional Ruler’s wife, Ugoeze Marcelina Agwu described money as blood tonic and added that the empowerment would revitalize both the strength of the beneficiaries and their businesses. She disclosed that the money was to assess the people’s ability in handling big capital and prepare them towards bigger supports to be given once their capability is proven and thereby urged them to always pray for the donor. “If you are among the beneficiaries and happens to be confused on the business to invest in, simply come to me for guidance and for others, please do not invest all the money once rather you are expected to have a reserve of 50% so that you can restock or change trade, if an expectation is not seen immediately” she advised. The donor’s father, Chief Benedict Okorie Nwani said that it was after his son had seen the level of austerity in Nigeria that he (benefactor) deemed it necessary to assist the downtrodden. “My son was not born with golden spoon rather he struggled as other children but he is differentiated from others by his spirit of generosity, this is why I am appealing to the beneficiaries to utilize the gesture to pave way for other opportunities” h said. The donor’s mother, Mrs. Regina Benedict Nwani said that she was happy when she got the information about the empowerment and appealed that the man should sustain the trajectory and remember a larger number subsequently. She appealed that the money should not be used for fetish activities or any act capable of obstructing the donor’s progress as God would not spare such person’s life and thanked her brother, the traditional ruler and his wife for coordinating the empowerment impressively. Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Adanna Onuoha and Blessing Uche thanked the donor, applauded Mr. and Mrs. Nwani for encouraging their son morally and appreciated the coordinator for his transparency. “This is great gifts in our lives and we will reciprocate the gesture by utilizing it in such manner that other people will benefit from us” they said.
