The Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, Senator Professor Anthony Okorie Ani has joined other well meaning Nigerians to condemn the gruesomely murder of 13 Ebonyi indigenes on Monday 30th June, 2025 at Ogboji Community, Orumba South LGA of Anambra State.
It was learnt that the slain persons who were members of Ebonyi State Development Union, Ogboji branch before their demise were in a meeting on the sorrowful day when suddenly the yet to be identified gunmen operating with sienna buses stormed the place, shot thirteen of them to death and inflicted wounds on others.
The lawmaker frowned at the atrocious incident and called for the collaboration of the leadership of Ogboji Community, Anambra State government and all the security operatives for the arrest of the perpetrators.
“I am yet to comprehend what on earth could prompt such attack on the innocent persons who were in a legal assembly over the welfare of their members or perhaps the assailants want to incite Ebonyi against Anambra to enable them have opportunities to commit more evil” he said.
He also sympathized with Ebonyi State governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru over the loss and appealed to Anambra State governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to do the needful by ensuring that the culprits are fished out.
“The killers would have taken a legal action, if the union had offended them rather than wasting the lives of such industrious men without minding the fate of the bereaved families mostly their children” he added.
Senator Ani who is also the Vice Chairman, South East Development Commission appealed for calm in Ebonyi and charged other South East leaders and stakeholders to work towards making the region peaceful to attract progress.
