Ebonyi Govt flags off training of 100 youths on modern ICT skill, warns against absenteeism
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has flagged off the training of One-hundred youth selected across the thirteen Local Government Areas of the state on a 3-months intensive vocational training on Information Communication Technology,ICT, building, and production skills as organized by the commissioner for skills and job creation.
Performing the flag-off, at the Re-Meritona Hotel and Suites, Abakaliki, governor Nwifuru charged the beneficiaries to take the exercise serious as government has taken the measure to reduce joblessness among the youth in line with the people's charter of needs manifesto.
Governor Nwifuru who was represented by the Speaker, Ebonyi state House of Assembly,Moses Ije-Ounwa described the choice of skill development as a way to manoeuvre life challenges as the idea of giving cash had not yield expected result and urged the beneficiaries to remain focus as to make living with the knowledge gained after the training.
"We are flagging off the training of one hundred of our youths today knowing the important of Information Communication Technology and how it will help our youths to be self reliant.
"We urge the beneficiaries to see this opportunity as a way to better their future as the best form of empowerment is showing one how to fish and not giving him fish.
The state Commissioner for Skill Development and Job Creation, Mr Elijah Okwu-Oko appreciated the state governor for giving Ebonyians future through the three months opportunity to raise young people after the training would add to strengthening the economy of the state.
He enjoined the participants to take the training serious as the ministry would ensure that it achieve the target of the exercise and warned against absenteeism and negligence.
"Ebonyi youths are lucky to have a governor who has interest in raising youth to be the leader of tomorrow in their different endeavors.
"His Excellency, RT Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru since assumption of office has trained over one thousand youths in modern farming, while over one thousand are in foreign and local scholarship and today, we are raising one hundred of them in modern skills acquisition, but they should know that absteism will cost whoever the beneficiary is this opportunity if we so find out.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Felicia Nwankpuma appreciated Governor Nwifuru for introducing skill development programme and dmonished the participants to see the opportunity to change their lives.
She highlighted that the trainees which covers have both male and female members would serve as employers of labour once they take the training serious.
A facilitator and Entrepreneur who is the CEO Geolanor Interior Studio ,Mrs Nwachi Genevieve Oluchi described skills as a new currency for success stating that after the training that the skill would help the youth to be self reliant.
Our correspondent reports that the 3-months training would featured ICT, Interior Design, Social Media Management, and lot others.
