The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared that Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru remains firmly in control of Ebonyi politics ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Umahi made this statement during the Ohanivo New Yam Festival where he dismissed speculations of political rivalry against the sitting governor.
According to him, those plotting to contest Nwifuru’s mandate should restrict their ambitions to online platforms rather than attempting to challenge the governor’s grassroots acceptance.
“Listen, if you want to struggle governorship with Nwifuru in 2027, make sure you do it on social media,” Umahi declared, stressing that the people of Ebonyi have already aligned themselves with the governor’s leadership.
He further maintained that Nwifuru has demonstrated competence and loyalty in steering the affairs of the state in line with the “People’s Charter of Needs,” assuring that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi remains united under the governor’s leadership.
Umahi, who once served as the governor of Ebonyi State, described his successor as “a trusted political ally” whose vision continues to transform the state. He called on political stakeholders to rally around Nwifuru to consolidate the achievements of the current administration.
The Minister’s remarks are seen as a strong signal to potential aspirants within the APC and opposition parties, suggesting that Nwifuru remains the anointed candidate of the state’s political structure as 2027 approaches.
