Press Week: Ebonyi NUJ Defeats NMA 3-0 In Novelty Match

As part of activities marking the 2025 Press Week celebration, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Chapter, engaged the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ebonyi State Chapter, in a friendly football encounter at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, on Monday, October 20, 2025.

The entertaining match ended 3–0 in favor of the NUJ team after an intense display of skill and teamwork. The first half ended goalless, with both sides exhibiting high levels of sportsmanship and determination. However, the second half saw the journalists dominate play, netting three impressive goals to seal the victory.

Speaking shortly after the match, one of the organizers, Comrade Godwin Oguta, commended both teams for their spirited performance and friendly conduct throughout the encounter. He appreciated the medical team for honoring the invitation and contributing to the success of the event.

Oguta also encouraged the NUJ players to sustain the winning spirit and called on members of the union to actively participate in the remaining activities lined up for the 2025 Press Week celebration. The novelty match was not only a display of sportsmanship but also strengthened the cordial relationship between journalists and medical professionals in the state.
