Breaking: Board Member, Four Journalists Escape Death in Ebonyi Auto Crash
A board member of the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, Comrade Nnamdi Akpa, and four practicing journalists narrowly escaped death on Thursday after being involved in a motor accident along the Nkpuma Akpatakpa road in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The incident occurred when the Honda Accord vehicle, with registration number Ebonyi ET513-APP and driven by Comrade Akpa, reportedly veered off the road and crashed into a nearby farm, coming to a halt after hitting a heap of sand.
Speaking shortly after the accident, Comrade Akpa, who is also the Guardian Newspaper Correspondent in the state, explained that they were returning from a function when the vehicle suddenly lost control and skidded off the highway.
“We thank God that no life was lost, even though some of the journalists sustained varying degrees of injury and have been rushed to the hospital,” he said.
“The accident happened just a few meters away from the main junction. One can only imagine how tragic it could have been if it occurred there. It is indeed a testimony of God’s mercy and protection.”
Those injured in the crash include Afia-TV Correspondent, Comrade Chijioke Njoku, Spring News Correspondent, Comrade Brenda Chidinma Imo-Eze, U-Reporter Correspondent, Mrs. Nnenna Mbah, and MCC Mirror Newspaper Correspondent, Miss Ilobe Martha.
Comrade Njoku, one of the survivors, who sustained injuries on his leg, described the accident as “fatal but miraculous,” expressing gratitude to God for sparing their lives and commending the driver for his swift response.
As of the time of filing this report, two of the victims were said to have been taken to Abakaliki for urgent medical attention.
