Heavy Security Presence At PDP National Secretariat As Factional Leadership Emerges
There was a heavy security presence on Monday at the Wadata Plaza, national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, following the emergence of a new factional leadership within the party.
Former PDP National Vice Chairman (North Central), Abdulrahman Mohammed, who recently announced the formation of a new faction, officially resumed at the secretariat as the acting national chairman of the party.
Armed security operatives were stationed at strategic points around the complex, controlling movement in and out of the premises as party members loyal to different camps gathered in groups, discussing the latest development.
Meanwhile, the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who belong to the other faction of the party’s leadership, were noticeably absent from the secretariat during the development.
The situation has heightened tension within the main opposition party as efforts to reconcile the warring factions continue.
