Gay Allegation: Nworu Pledges 50kg Bag of Rice for Evidence Against Ohaukwu Residents
Lagos State–based celebrity trekker and businessman, Apostle Jeremiah Obeji Nworu, has sparked mixed reactions online after pledging a 50kg bag of rice to anyone who presents credible evidence that residents of Ohaukwu Local Government Area are involved in same-sex practices.
Apostle Nworu who's an indigene of Ohaukwu made the pledge while reacting to a viral social media claim alleging that Ohaukwu LGA has “the highest number of gay men,” including some serving as government appointees. The claim, which has gained traction on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), prompted strong responses from indigenes of the area.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Apostle Nworu dismissed the allegation as false and malicious.
He stated that Ohaukwu people are “God-fearing” and should not be associated with what he described as “anuscious activities.”
His post read in part: “A lot of people have tagged me over what appears to be sodomy going on in Abakaliki and was rumored that the headquarters of such infamous association is in my own Ohaukwu. But I'm here denying everything about Ohaukwu men being into such activities. Ohaukwu is the Land of God and there is no such evil in the Land of God.”
Reaffirming his confidence in the moral standing of his people, the trekker challenged anyone with proof to come forward. “If you have any evidence against any Ohaukwu man or woman being gay or lesbian, please mention the person’s name here and win a 50kg bag of rice for Christmas,” he wrote, adding that “terms and conditions apply.”
The post has since generated debate among social media users, with some describing his challenge as humorous, while others say it could incite unfounded accusations.
Observers note that Apostle Nworu, who is well known for his long-distance charity treks and philanthropic gestures, is using the offer to defend the reputation of his community in the face of what he considers defamatory claims.
As reactions continue to trail the viral allegation and his Christmas rice challenge, Apostle Nworu maintains that no resident of Ohaukwu has been proven to be involved in same-sex relations.
