NYCN Lauds Ebonyi First Lady’s BERWO Project, Calls for genuine support

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, has called on youths and citizens of the state to reciprocate the kind gestures of the Office of the First Lady, Her Excellency, Mrs. Mary-Maudeline Ogbonna Nwifuru, through appreciation and continued support for her women and youth-focused initiatives under the BERWO Project.
The NYCN State Chairman, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, made the call during a radio programme aired on the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), where he commended the First Lady for her impactful contributions to human capital development and social welfare across the state. Comrade Ochishi described the interventions of the Office of the First Lady as timely and people-oriented, noting that the BERWO Project has touched many lives through various programmes. According to him, key areas of intervention include the delivery of healthcare services, the fight against child trafficking, advocacy and campaigns to end female genital mutilation, and the construction of decent residential houses for widows across Ebonyi State. He further highlighted the provision of educational and agricultural incentives aimed at boosting academic excellence and ensuring food security, stressing that the initiatives have significantly complemented the state government’s development agenda. On civic participation, the NYCN chairman urged Ebonyians to take advantage of the ongoing Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) registration exercise, encouraging citizens to register en masse in order to contribute meaningfully to national development and decision-making. “Your voting strength determines your stake in the scheme of things in Nigeria,” Ochishi emphasized. Speaking on security during the yuletide season, he called on youths to act as agents of peace and security by being vigilant and reporting suspicious activities, stressing the need for collective responsibility in safeguarding the state. He also cautioned against reckless spending during the festive period, advising residents to spend wisely and plan for the future. Comrade Ochishi concluded with a stern warning to enemies of peace and security in the state to desist from criminal activities, noting that Ebonyi remains committed to sustaining peace and development for the benefit of all.
