Yuletide: Ebonyi Lawmaker, Mbam Empowers Constituents With Gifts Worth Millions
In his characteristic style of grassroots engagement and compassion, the member representing Izzi East Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam, has put smiles on the faces of his constituents by hosting a grand end-of-year celebration laced with massive empowerment and gift distribution.
The lawmaker rolled out empowerment programmes worth millions of naira as part of activities marking the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations, with beneficiaries cutting across wards in Izzi East Constituency.
Items distributed included grinding machines, tailoring machines, bags of rice, wrappers, cartons of Maggi, bags of salt, buckets, cartons of tomatoes, assorted food condiments, a cow, cash gifts, among others.
The celebration commenced with a Holy Mass solemnly presided over by Rev. Fr. Chukwuma Ogwudu Onah of St. Michael’s Parish, Ndingele Mgbalukwu, Izzi Local Government Area.
Speaking at his country home in Mgbalukwu Autonomous Community, Izzi LGA, in the presence of APC chieftains, party supporters, constituents, friends, well-wishers and associates who filled his compound, Hon. Mbam said the annual Christmas and New Year celebration was organized to appreciate the people of Izzi East and to remain connected with their needs.
According to him, the gesture was also aimed at complementing the proactive steps of Ebonyi State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and his wife, in ensuring that the less privileged have a sense of belonging, especially during the festive season.
On his performance at the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mbam stated that he had taken time to study the needs of his constituency and had made deliberate efforts to address them.
He listed some of his achievements to include the award of scholarships to indigent students, sinking of boreholes, installation of solar streetlights across the seven wards of Izzi East, and the attraction of the construction of the 30-kilometre Ominyi–Iboko Road, among others.
The lawmaker, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy and EBSIEC Matters, expressed gratitude to Governor Nwifuru for the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Ominyi Road.
He urged the people of Izzi East to continue supporting the governor, noting that the People’s Charter of Needs would continue to positively impact lives across Ebonyi State.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Hon. Chief Anthony Onyibe Nwegede, described Hon. Mbam as an outspoken and effective legislator, commending his contributions during plenary sessions.
He expressed confidence that the people of Izzi East would reward him with a second term.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministries of Works and Education, Chief Monday Nkwede, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Batchy Plant, Hon. Kizito Nwenyi, praised Hon. Mbam’s leadership qualities, spirit of love and generosity, urging him to sustain his effective representation and humanitarian disposition.
Other dignitaries, including the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission (NPC), Ebonyi State, APC Chairman Izzi LGA, Hon. Odili Okeye, Hon. Jeremiah Nwankwegu, former Coordinator Izzi Development Centre Hon. Patrick Mbam, traditional ruler of Mgbalukwu Autonomous Community HRH Eze Stephen Akpaghara, Women Leader Onwa Oferekpe Mgbalukwu Ward Mrs. Mary Nwibo Okoko, President Mgbalukwu Development Union Chief Chukwuma Nwegu, Engr. Mathias Mbam, and others, said the people made the right choice in electing Hon. Mbam, noting that the empowerment items were impactful and targeted at the most needy.
The event also witnessed the defection of some members from the PDP to APC, led by Mr. Friday Mbam.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Nkwuda Benneth Okeh from Ndiebor Ishiagu Ward thanked the lawmaker for the relief and empowerment, describing him as a true representative of the people.
He prayed God to continue to guide and protect Hon. Mbam in his service to humanity.
