Gov. Nwifuru Sacks Appointees, Dethrones Traditional Rulers Over Amasiri/Oso Edda Crisis

The Ebonyi State Governor,Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has approved the immediate sack of all government appointees from Amasiri community following the ongoing crisis between Amasiri and Oso Edda communities.
The Governor’s directive, announced on Saturday, January 31, 2026, affects all Amasiri indigenes serving as members of Management Committees and Commissioners in the state government. In a further decisive move, Governor Nwifuru ordered the dethronement of all traditional rulers from Amasiri, with their certificates of recognition immediately invalidated. The directive also extends to the grassroots leadership structure, as all Community Development Union (CDU) Presidents and Village Heads from Amasiri have been removed from office with immediate effect.
According to the Governor, the actions are part of urgent measures to restore peace, maintain law and order, and demonstrate the government’s zero tolerance for actions capable of threatening peaceful coexistence in the state.
The Ebonyi State Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, warning that anyone found culpable in actions that undermine peace and security will face the full weight of the law. Governor Nwifuru reiterated that his administration remains resolute in ensuring lasting peace across all communities in Ebonyi State.
