Ebonyi Govt Sets 3-Month Deadline for Projects, Ministries Face Possible Sanctions

The Ebonyi State Government has issued a three-month ultimatum to ministries supervising ongoing projects across the state, directing them to ensure completion within the stipulated period or face sanctions.

Briefing journalists after the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr. Ikeuwa Omebeh, said the decision followed a comprehensive review of ongoing projects aimed at accelerating development and improving service delivery. He stated that key ministries including Works, Infrastructure, Environment, Commerce and Industry, Water Resources, Housing, and Special Duties were mandated to intensify efforts toward the timely completion of projects under their supervision. Mr. Omebeh further disclosed that the Council approved the appointment and inauguration of two members of the State Civil Service Commission, a Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, and a Secretary of the Rural Electrification Board. Governor Francis Nwifuru, he said, charged the appointees to demonstrate dedication and commitment in the discharge of their duties. According to the Commissioner, the Governor also directed the Rural Electrification Board to prioritize electricity supply to rural communities as part of efforts to curb rural-urban migration and stimulate grassroots economic activities. On civil service reforms, he noted that the newly inaugurated Civil Service Commission has been tasked with collaborating with relevant stakeholders to reposition the state civil service for improved productivity and efficient service delivery. Providing updates on the state’s overseas scholarship programme, Mr. Omebeh revealed that the first batch of 204 beneficiaries has completed their Master’s degree programmes. He added that 98 students have been selected for the second batch, with 55 already abroad, 37 scheduled to depart soon, while six others are expected to travel by September in line with their academic calendars. The Council also constituted a three-man committee to review a memorandum on the sale and purchase of metal scraps, with a mandate to submit its report at the next EXCO meeting. Mr. Omebeh reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to accelerated development, improved governance, and the delivery of impactful projects across all sectors.
