FON Unity Cup: NYCN Boss Applauds Initiative, Calls for Greater Youth Investment

The Ebonyi State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Douglas Ochishi, has described the FON Youth Movement Constituency Unity Cup as a commendable initiative aimed at promoting youth empowerment and grassroots talent discovery across the state.
Comrade Ochishi made the remarks during the grand finale of the FON Youth Movement Constituency Unity Cup held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki. The NYCN State Chairman noted that the tournament has provided a veritable platform for young people to showcase their football talents while fostering unity, discipline and teamwork among participants.
He emphasized that sports remain a strategic tool for engaging youths positively and steering them away from social vices. He commended the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilization and Chairman of the FON Youth Movement, Hon. Chinedu Emerike, for his foresight and commitment to uniting young people across the constituency through sporting activities.
According to him, such initiatives complement government efforts in promoting youth development. Ochishi further stated that the competition has not only strengthened bonds among communities but has also rekindled hope among young aspiring athletes who see the tournament as a stepping stone to greater opportunities in professional sports. The NYCN Chairman equally appreciated the sponsor of the competition, High Chief Chikaodili Mbam Ojimba, describing him as a successful businessman and philanthropist whose investment in youth-focused programmes demonstrates genuine commitment to grassroots development. He urged other well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies to emulate the gesture by supporting initiatives that promote youth empowerment, stressing that collective responsibility remains key to building a vibrant and productive youth population in Ebonyi State. The event attracted youths, community leaders, stakeholders and sports enthusiasts who gathered to witness the climax of the competition.
