Police Engage In Sanitation, Medical Outreach In Abakaliki
The Ebonyi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has kicked off activities marking the 2026 National Police Day with a sanitation exercise and medical outreach in Abakaliki.
The exercise, which took place at Spera In Deo Junction today, saw officers and men of the Command actively involved in environmental cleanup efforts aimed at promoting hygiene and enhancing community well-being.
Speaking during the exercise, the Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, said the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen police-community relations and demonstrate the Force’s commitment to societal development beyond its core mandate of maintaining law and order.
He noted that the sanitation exercise was complemented by a medical outreach programme providing basic healthcare services to residents, particularly those with limited access to medical facilities.
Ukandu added that the activities highlight the police’s dedication not only to safeguarding lives and property but also to improving public health and environmental standards in the communities they serve.
He further outlined a lineup of activities for the celebration, following the presidential directive designating April 7 as National Police Day.
According to him, the week-long events, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” will include a walkathon across Abakaliki and other area commands, sensitisation campaigns against electoral violence and traffic violations, as well as the presentation of cheques to families of fallen officers.
The Command has urged residents to actively participate in the activities to foster stronger collaboration between the police and the public.
