Umahi, Nwifuru Win Praise As NUJ Receives New Bus In Ebonyi
The Ebonyi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for their continued support and partnership with journalists in the state.
The commendation came during the official presentation of a brand-new bus donated to the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ by the Minister of Works at the Dr Sam Egwu Press Centre in Abakaliki on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Council of NUJ, Comrade Samson Nwafor, described the donation as another demonstration of Senator Umahi’s commitment to the welfare of journalists and media development in the state.
Nwafor recalled that Umahi had earlier donated a bus to the union during his tenure as governor of Ebonyi State, adding that the latest gesture further reflected the minister’s strong relationship with the media.
“I commend highly the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, for this generous gift to the union.
He has remained a wonderful partner to journalists from his days as governor till now,” Nwafor said.
He noted that the bus would improve the mobility of journalists, especially members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, in covering projects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across the Southeast as well as projects being executed by Governor Francis Nwifuru across Ebonyi State.
According to him, the vehicle would also enable journalists to effectively monitor federal and state government projects in the region.
The NUJ chairman further praised Governor Nwifuru for sustaining support for journalists since assuming office, recalling that the governor donated a Toyota Hiace bus to the union shortly after his inauguration.
He said the peaceful environment created by the governor has allowed journalists in the state to operate freely without intimidation.
Nwafor assured both leaders that journalists in the state would continue to discharge their duties professionally and objectively in the interest of peace, unity, and development.
He also urged journalists to uphold ethical standards and avoid sensational reports capable of causing tension in society.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel in Ebonyi State, Comrade Uchenna Inya, commended both Umahi and Nwifuru for what he described as their genuine love and support for journalists.
“Senator Umahi has organic love for journalists. The same applies to Governor Nwifuru.
"Both leaders have shown uncommon support for the media in Ebonyi State,” Inya stated.
The event attracted journalists from various NUJ chapels, media stakeholders, and dignitaries who applauded the sustained collaboration between the government and the media community in Ebonyi State.
