Nwebonyi's ₦100m Scholarship Scheme Complements Nwifuru's Education Agenda –Nwoke
Member representing Abakaliki North Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Victor Nwoke has described education as the greatest investment in the future, commending the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, for launching a ₦100 million scholarship scheme for students in Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
In a statement, Nwoke said the initiative reflects Senator Nwebonyi's commitment to human capital development and aligns with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's education-focused policies.
According to him, the governor has continued to demonstrate commitment to education by sponsoring over 1,000 Ebonyi youths for postgraduate studies, including master's and doctoral programmes within Nigeria and abroad, despite prevailing economic challenges.
Nwoke said that investments in education remain essential for sustainable development, noting that the scholarship programme would ease the financial burden on students while helping to reshape perceptions about Ebonyi's educational advancement.
The lawmaker also highlighted his personal commitment to promoting education through his "Zero Tolerance for Illiteracy" initiative, which facilitated the establishment of a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE)-awarding institution.
He disclosed that the initiative had enabled more than 100 people, including elderly women, former school dropouts, commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators, to return to school in pursuit of formal education.
Nwoke urged beneficiaries of Senator Nwebonyi's scholarship to make judicious use of the opportunity by remaining focused on their studies and striving for academic excellence.
He further advised young people to avoid social media abuse, political manipulation and other activities capable of derailing their future, urging them instead to become disciplined, responsible and worthy ambassadors of Ebonyi State.
The lawmaker expressed appreciation to Senator Nwebonyi for prioritizing education in his constituency interventions, describing the scholarship scheme as a significant contribution to the development of the state's youth and a complement to Governor Nwifuru's efforts to expand access to quality education.
