‎Onyia Assumes Office As Ebonyi Sports Commissioner, Pledges To Consolidate On Existing Legacies ‎

‎ ‎The newly redeployed Ebonyi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Chidiebere Onyia, has officially assumed office following a formal handover on Wednesday 1st July,2026.
‎ ‎Onyia's assumption of office follows the recent cabinet reshuffle approved by Governor Francis Nwifuru, which saw him redeployed from the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development to oversee the youth and sports sector. ‎ ‎Speaking during the handover ceremony, the outgoing commissioner, Prince Richard Idike, expressed gratitude to God and Governor Nwifuru for the opportunity to serve. ‎ ‎He commended the ministry's workforce for their professionalism, dedication, and loyalty to government policies. ‎ ‎"I have worked in many places, but I have never encountered a workforce as committed and cooperative as the staff of this ministry," Idike said, assuring his successor of their continued support and cooperation. ‎ ‎He expressed confidence in Onyia's ability to advance the ministry's mandate and pledged his continued support whenever needed. ‎ ‎In his response, Onyia paid tribute to Idike, describing him as a mentor and leader he had admired for many years. ‎ ‎He assured staff and stakeholders that he would build on the achievements recorded by his predecessor. ‎ ‎"The legacies you have established here will be consolidated," Onyia stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong relationships and seeking guidance from experienced leaders. ‎ ‎The ceremony featured goodwill messages from stakeholders and marked a seamless transition aimed at advancing youth development and sports administration in Ebonyi State. ‎
