Sam Okwaraji Tournament: Nnodo Boys Defeat Akanu Ibiam Seminary Memorial College 2-1
Nnodo Boys Secondary School has advanced in the ongoing Sam Okwaraji Secondary School Football Championship after defeating Akanu Ibiam Seminary Memorial College, Kpirikpiri, 2-1 in a keenly contested quarter final encounter.
Speaking after the match, the Ebonyi State Coordinator of the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) and Head of Department, Education Service, Mrs. Nwali Victoria, commended the outstanding performance of the participating teams, describing their display as exceptional.
She appealed to the Ebonyi State Government to provide greater support for secondary school sports competitions, stressing that such initiatives are vital for talent discovery and development.
According to her, the Sam Okwaraji Championship provides a unique platform for students in Ebonyi State to showcase their football talents and gain exposure to opportunities in the broader sporting world.
Also speaking after the match, the Game Master of Nnodo Boys Secondary School, Mr. Egwu Kelechi, described the encounter as a difficult fixture despite his team's victory.
He expressed appreciation to the tournament organizers for creating an avenue for young athletes to display their abilities, noting that Ebonyi State is blessed with abundant football talent.
The 2026 Sam Okwaraji Nigeria Secondary Schools Football championship as sponsored by First Bank is set to honour the memories of late Nigerian football legend, Sam Okwaraji.
