Abakaliki FC Defeat Ikorodu City 2-0 In Pre-Season Gold Cup Tournament ‎

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Abakaliki Football Club, popularly known as De Rice Boys, have begun their Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament campaign in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on a winning note, defeating Ikorodu City FC 2-0.

‎ ‎Moses Amanekwu opened the scoring for the Ebonyi-based side in the 28th minute, while Chimaobi Metumareobi sealed the victory with a stoppage-time goal in the 92nd minute.

‎ ‎Speaking after the match with our correspondent on phone, Abakaliki FC Head Coach, StarPlus Anistar, described the victory as decisive and expressed confidence that the team would go on to win the tournament.

‎ ‎Anistar attributed the team's impressive performance to the quality of players selected for the new season and the contributions of the technical crew. ‎

‎He said the pre-season tournament would provide an opportunity to assess the competitiveness of the players ahead of the new football season. ‎

‎The coach also thanked Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for approving the appointment of two assistant coaches, saying their experience had made the technical team's job easier. ‎ ‎He expressed optimism that the new season would be “a year of Abakaliki FC.” ‎
