‎ ‎Abakaliki Football Club, popularly known as the De Rice Boys, secured a 3-2 victory over Dokkal Khairu FC in the Gold Cup Preseason Tournament in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

‎ ‎The thrilling encounter, played at the MKO Abiola Stadium on Sunday, saw Abakaliki FC come from behind to claim victory in a closely contested fixture. ‎ ‎Abakaliki FC took the lead in the 21st minute through Ekong Christian, before Okeke Chinaza doubled the advantage in the 45th minute. ‎ ‎Dokkal Khairu FC responded strongly in the second half, reducing the deficit in the 88th minute before converting a penalty in the 94th minute to level the scores. ‎ ‎However, Godwin Nwankwo struck in the 83rd minute for Abakaliki FC to give the Ebonyi-based side a decisive advantage and secure the 3-2 victory. ‎ ‎The result further boosts Abakaliki FC’s preparations ahead of the new football season, as the club continues its preseason campaign under Head Coach and Technical Adviser Starlus Ezuikem Anistar. ‎ ‎The Club's Public Relation Officer, Chukwuma Ogbonna reiterated the technical crews ambition to compete strongly in the season, with its slogan, One Team, One Goal-De Rice Boys to the World, reflecting its determination to achieve greater success.
